Salary Data You Can Trust
SalaryMapHQ is a comprehensive salary intelligence platform covering compensation data for 1,000+ job titles across major US metro areas — completely free, no sign-up required.
Our Mission
Salary negotiation is stressful when you don't know your market value. We built SalaryMapHQ to give everyone — from first-time job seekers to seasoned executives — access to the same compensation intelligence that hiring managers and recruiters rely on every day.
We believe transparent salary data levels the playing field. When workers know what their role pays in their city and industry, they can negotiate with confidence, make informed career decisions, and ensure they are compensated fairly.
Our Data Sources
BLS Occupational Employment Statistics
The Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS) program produces annual employment and wage estimates for over 800 occupations across all US states and metropolitan areas. This is the gold standard for US salary data, collected from employer surveys covering approximately 1.1 million establishments each year.
DOL H-1B Wage Disclosures
The Department of Labor requires employers to publicly disclose the wages paid to H-1B visa workers through Labor Condition Applications (LCAs). Because companies must certify these wages meet or exceed the prevailing wage for the role and location, this data provides a verified, employer-attested floor for compensation at major tech and professional services firms.
Colorado Pay Transparency Disclosures
Colorado's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act (EPEWA) requires employers with at least one Colorado employee to disclose salary ranges in job postings. Because major employers post these ranges publicly, we aggregate them to supplement BLS estimates with real-time market signals for specific roles at named companies.
Aggregated Self-Reported Data
We incorporate anonymized, aggregated compensation data from professional communities and salary-sharing platforms. All self-reported data is validated against BLS benchmarks and statistical outliers are removed before publication to ensure accuracy and representativeness.

Our Methodology
Data Collection
We collect BLS OES data at the metropolitan statistical area (MSA) level, cross-referenced with DOL H-1B LCA filings filtered by Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) codes.
Normalization
All figures are annualized and adjusted to reflect full-time equivalent (FTE) compensation. We apply BLS Consumer Price Index (CPI) data to enable cost-of-living comparisons across geographies.
Validation
Figures are cross-validated against employer salary disclosures and job posting data. Outliers are identified using interquartile range (IQR) methods and excluded or flagged.
Annual Updates
Data is refreshed annually following the BLS OEWS release cycle (typically May each year), with supplemental H-1B updates applied quarterly as new LCA filings become available.
